IRFC Colts – 2026/27 Season
The Ipswich RFC Colts programme brings together players from the U17 and U18 age groups and forms a crucial stage in the club’s senior playing pathway. As the final step before adult rugby, the Colts environment is designed to prepare players technically, physically, and mentally for the demands of the senior game.
For the 2026/27 season, we are proud to be running two full squads, reflecting the continued growth, commitment, and enthusiasm of our young players.
Player Development & Support
The Colts programme provides a structured, supportive environment where players of all abilities can develop at their own pace. With access to the club’s wider coaching network and performance support, including strength and conditioning, game understanding, and mental preparation players receive the tools they need to progress confidently toward senior rugby.
The focus is clear:
Build core skills
Develop physical robustness
Strengthen game awareness
Foster leadership and responsibility
Prepare players for the transition into senior squads
Whether aiming for competitive senior rugby or enjoying the social side of the sport, every player is supported and valued.
Pathway to Senior Rugby
The Colts act as the bridge between junior and senior rugby, ensuring players are ready for the next step. With two squads, we can offer tailored opportunities for players at different stages of development, whether they are pushing for senior selection or building confidence in a competitive but positive environment.
Players compete in:
The Colts Conference (Eastern Region)
The Eastern Counties Cup
The National Cup
Our ambition is to be competitive in every fixture while maintaining the inclusive, team‑first culture that defines the programme.
Training Schedule
Colts train at Humber Doucy Lane alongside the senior men’s squads, reinforcing the pathway and helping players integrate into the senior environment.
Training Times:
Tuesday: 6:30pm
Thursday: 6:30pm
Sunday: 11:30am (when no matches)
This alignment with senior training ensures continuity, familiarity, and a smooth transition when players step up.
Join the Colts
We welcome players of all abilities, whether you’re new to rugby, returning after a break, or looking to push your game to the next level. With two squads running, there is space for everyone to develop, compete, and enjoy their rugby.
