Wymondham 36 - Ipswich 36

What a first game to the season and considering many facts, like first 15 aside game, first game with lineouts, first game with flankers, plus the fact we only have 17 players and they had 30 a draw is a great result.

The first 20 mins, was the best the boys have started any game since I have been coaching them, we have a habit of starting slowly, but not this time, straight out of the blocks, with a great first scrum won against the head and some superb goal line defending turning the ball over and winning penalties. This was clearly their strongest 15 with them pulling out a lead with the wind on their backs. But the boys did very well scoring their own try's.

The second 20 was all Ipswich, scoring try's almost at will, some great forward work done in the loose and set piece meant the backs could practice and pull off some of the move's they have been working hard on. In fact I certainly hit my daily steps having to carry the kicking tee on for Bobbie, turning the score board on its head and putting us back in front.

So into the finally 20 minutes and the boys stood firm (like Martin Johnson and England in Ireland) and took the final third with the wind on their backs. Some end to end play with a good 5 minutes of uninterrupted play from both evenly matched teams, try's being scored at both ends and the opposition coaching commenting on the boys strength and fitness considering they hadn't stopped and they changed their team every 20 minutes.

In the end a well deserved 36-36 draw and a great advert for youth rugby.

Only down side was the injury to your scrum half Joe and their number 10 towards the end of the game with a unfortunate clash of heads resulting in a fracture jaw for Joe and concussion and stiches for the Wymondham player.
