Great display from the boys.

Ipswich U14 Black 75 v 0 Diss U14 (Tries: Otis, Ollie S 2, Mo, Dom 2, Fin 2, Kajeai, Charles, Joe M, Joe F, Vic : Conversions Callum M 4, Mo)

A big, mobile Diss side descended on the Lane today and locked horns with Black on a beautiful autumnal morning on a beautiful pitch.

We started like a train. Callum M collected the ball in the air from Victor's kick off and drove forward before resetting from where Otis picked the ball from the base of the ruck and burrowed his way free before opening his legs and scoring out wide. We worked incredibly hard this morning and set the tone from the very first whistle. It was pleasing to see the ball moved at pace through the hands and whilst it sometimes got stuck in that we held onto it and went into contact or changed the line of attack when there was a simpler option, we played some lovely rugby and were very aggressive at the breakdown from the get go which was lovely to see.

We scored three tries of real outstanding quality today amongst all the others we scored today. Mo's try where Charles made a brilliant run but didn't drift so keeping yardage between himself and the touchline to allow Joe F's loop and offload to him that he then followed to get the ball back before presenting so that Mo could pick and go on the blind side was an outstanding try delivered with real pace.

Dom's try that saw us go through a number of hands before he hit and broke the gain line, that we then locked onto and duly drove him over the line under the posts or Victor's try that saw the ball pass through so many hands as we recycled, supported, rucked and drove at pace with real pace and purpose, was especially, a beautiful thing amongst the thirteen tries that we scored this morning.

This side has really developed since the beginning of the season. I feel we are ready for the games that are to come after Christmas. Time will tell how we fare but I was again today very impressed with the work rate and delivery of key skills amongst the boys.

Man of the Match

Paul chose the MoM today and went with Arch for his tackling and rucking that went a long way to neutralising a very big Diss pack. I myself also thought that Will Mc, Kajeai, Joe M, Otis, Ollie S and Vic were outstanding. I thought Charles had another great game having moved into Black, Callum M came back strongly after kicking into a difficult wind in the first half and Mo showed real energy at 9 again, capping his performance with a try. I loved the unity today and the fire with which we set about Diss from the first whistle as I've said. A very pleasing performance and a great mornings work at the Lane.

Thank yous

Thank you to Alex for refereeing and to all the boys who trained with Gold and then stayed behind after training to watch. Thanks to the parents, siblings, friends and relatives for their support of the boys on the touchline today, Dougie and everyone involved in the pie, mash and gravy lunch afterwards and to the Mums who pitched in and helped out there.

See you all at training on Thursday! Also please note that we will be going right through over the Christmas period in an effort to keep the onset of Christmas inches at bay!
