U16's win at North Walsham

Ipswich U16's headed up the A140 for a fixture with our friends at North Walsham on a very windy and wet Sunday morning, so firstly thank you to all the parents and carers to managed the trip.

With school commitments and injuries, it was a mixed team of U16s and U15's against a strong Walsham team on a pitch very much open to the wind. Walsham won the toss and decided to have the wind behind their backs for the first half and scored 18 unanswered points, with 3 unconverted try's and penalty in that half and Ipswich losing Ronnie to a head injury, but in true rugby spirit our host's were happy to supply a player to make sure it remained 15 aside.

Within minutes on the 2nd half, Walsham's bigger pack stuck the ball up their jumpers and manages to squeeze over again in the corner to bring the score to 22-0. This seem to click Ipswich into life and by using the wind, kicking, strong runs and handling skills got themselves back into the game with try's, one being converted. Unfortunately Ipswich then lost another to a head injury but again Walsham stepped up and lent another player so it remained 15 a side.

In the last 20 minutes Ipswich camped in their half and with some great play managed to score 3 more try's with a 2 being converted to make the final score 22-31.

Moment of the match had to be Ethan's 50-22 or as the wind was behind him 22-22!.

Well done to all the boys involved and credit to the Walsham team and coaches who were a credit to their club and just wanted to play rugby as we all do.
