Southwold U15 7 - 26 Ipswich U15 Black (Tries: Tom, Matt 2, Sadds Cons: Murph 3)
Today was another day full of immense pride in the achievements of our U15's. We went to Southwold (a very good side who always give us a very serious examination) and after a very even first half in which we played with the wind and went in 7-12 up, we handed out a lesson in D in the second half. We were immaculate without the ball and ran out 7-26 winners. Just so proud of the group and as always very impressed with Southwold who matched us all the way. U15 rugby in Suffolk is strong and all the lads on show today should be pleased with their shifts.
The wind was heavy today but the pitch was dry underfoot and the sun shone. We took time to settle but eventually did and started to go through the gears. That said, Tom made a try out of nothing, going all the way on the outside, backing himself and having too much pace for the Southwold players trying to catch him.
We made some mistakes today but that is part of our learning. The wind at our backs was probably more of a hindrance than a help as we tried to use it too much rather than focussing on what we are good at and using the skillsets to open up the advantages that this group affords us.
Southwold came back and scored a converted try of their own and it stayed 7-7 for a while until we finally started to rely on more structure in the final third rather than being so individualistic. We got Matt in off a tip and turned around at half time 7-12 up.
The second half without the ball is as good as I've seen us play. We were immaculate. We forced errors, we turned over ball, we secured ball and we generally made a complete nuisance of ourselves in an unrelenting fashion. Time and time again we didn't panic. Time and time again we came out on top.
We missed a few opportunities to make the scoreline bigger but that will come with time. We were very worthy winners and great value today. It was lovely to see the boys back up the Cup win they produced against Southwold at the Lane before Christmas with another one today.
Matt again and Ollie got in for tries in the second half and Murph added the conversions to see the game finish 7-26.
A great mornings work.
