Ipswich Under 15s got back on to winning ways at Humber Doucy Lane with an emphatic win over local side Stowmarket who were ably supported by a number of Ipswich players.
Ipswich were four tries up after 11 minutes after a great team try finished by Tom White, a Ryan Fosker interception, an Eli Govindasami jink over from close in and a wide run in from Jonny Hazelton to post his first team score. Sam Donnelly converted three of these to move the Ipswich lead to a 26-0 advantage after the quarter hour. The visitors hit back with a fine try after great interworking from Josh Ball offloading to put Jack Cottrell for a strong run in to the line. Ipswich posted two more tries after a sparkling run from Adam Rudolph, before Jonny Hazelton scored his second once again wide right. Stowmarket pulled one back with a strong number 8 drive before Ipswich scored three more from Tom White, Eli Govindasami and Jonny Hazelton again scoring close to half time, his third to complete a hat-trick. Sam Donnelly’s cultured boot added a few conversions, Ipswich were 59-10 to the good as the teams turned round.
The coaches bolstered the Stowmarket side as the teams turned round and it was Tom White playing in red who opened the scoring from the kick off. Sam Donnelly levelled the second half score on 3 minutes before Jack Cottrell scored his second of the day, this time wearing black, on 6 minutes. The Stowmarket scrum half picked up neatly and sprinted clear against a reduced Ipswich back row to level the second half score after 10 minutes. Jack Cottrell was held up close to the line for Ipswich before Jake Hoskins playing in red broke clear with a very strong run for a converted try to give the visitors a second period lead 10-17. Stow then scored two in succession with some impressive play from their scrum half the second from a great offload from Eli Govindasami playing in red, Ipswich were behind in this period 10-29. Ed Jordan scored next with a marvellous jinking run converted by Sam Donnelly to narrow the gap, 17-29, before Jack Cottrell scored his second for the blacks and third of the day with a super-strong run and a telling handoff, converted sublimely by Sam Donnelly it was 24-29 in the second half with 2 minutes remaining. Stowmarket to their credit weren’t finished and their impressive number 8 chased back to post a final score close to full time, when this was converted the second period score was Ipswich 24 Stowmarket 36.
This was an impressive workout and a highly sporting display from all players. Ipswich boys playing in black and red scored no fewer than 16 tries to post a final aggregate score of Ipswich 83 Stowmarket 46 in a highly entertaining hour of good quality rugby. The Stowmarket lads played their parts as well, keeping their heads up despite an awesome first half display from Ipswich and leading the scores in the final period with some impressive commitment and running play.
