The Mighty 50 - 21 Aldeburgh Thorpeness

In the return leg of the match that canned 3-4 of our players for several key games, earlier in the season (one of whom was never to return), I am happy to report, that an almost faultless match, saw The Mighty clinch league game victory, catapulting us into position 4 in the table (that's above half way, so it's important!).

A plethora of tries from the Mighty in the first 15 minutes gave us a 3 try head start that would have been difficult for any team to bounce back from. But the visitors didn't go to sleep. Their form improved and they made the most out of some Mighty mistakes, as our complaincancy crept in. A sharp shock came in the form of two return tries in quick succession. A kick that we probably needed, to make the point that we were not the All Blacks on tour in Japan.

Landing firmly back in real world, with a single score lead, we kept the game play tight and made solid use of our half backs and centre experience to make ground swiftly. John Searle directed the back line play, but struggled to get much ball as our forward play was disrupted by a heavier visiting pack. Heavier they might have been, but that does not mean better. With ball in hand our forwards ran some ground making lines, helped by a welcome addition of the returning Alex Primmer and "2-ties" Billy Bowen, who were both standout players in the, solid, Mighty pack.

With our heads back in the game, the tries continued to flow in our favour. With a tally of 8 tries and some notable conversions, courtesy of Mark Broughton's magic boot, we ended the game with a haul of 50 points. A score to be proud of lads.

Also worth a Mighty mention are; Simon Turnbull for stepping up to prop and finding a position that he's now likely to be stuck with for the rest of his playing days, and Dave Chapman who made some particularly crashing carries through more than one of the, unassuming, opposition.

Fraser Goldie, outstanding at No8, but not enough to redeem yourself and forego Dick of the Day, won pre-match for kicking the ball in the changing room and smashing the lighting arrangements. Retained and solidified by throwing up on the side of the pitch after a particularly heavy night and asking for 5 minutes to recover (you big girl).

Well done to Jez Holmes for taking to the field for the opposition to bolster their numbers, and for taking the DotD forfeit in Fraser's absence and downing the pint... we say downing... slow, girly, sips is how Jez rolls. Yaz is ordering curly straws and cocktail umbrellas, just for you.

Billy Bowen, you are our Man of the Match. Solid play throughout, culminating in two tries. Well done, great effort!

Well done to Samuel Craske, for stepping onto the field for his first game of rugger. You did well mate, but at 6'4" and over 15st, don't get too comfortable on the wing. You are destined for pack duty.

Great game, great day, great post-match fun.
