A Mighty Muddy Match

With a biting wind, sideways rain and a mud-bath of a pitch (sorry JK, pitch 4 looks a bit ruined!), The Mighty braved the elements to field one and a half teams. With 22 players available and a visiting squad of 7, we lent Felixstowe some Mighty calibre players, to play a 14-a-side grunt of a game.

A low scoring game saw Jacobs claim the first points, cunningly disguised as a Felixstowe player, he put them in the lead, which is where they would stay for 75% of the match.

Despite some great breaks from the back line, in the shape of Chandler Bonne, and some solid forward ball-carrying from the likes of returning Ryan Pitt and Thomas 'Chopper' Jordan, we were unable to equalise for some 40 minutes. Keeping the game tight in the forwards, a multi-phase period of play saw us make great yardage and put us within a whisker of their try line. A pop to Peter Jordan and a missed tackle from Deano (sporting Felixstowe colours) resulted in a 10 yard trundle and crash for the try line. We equalised, but didn't manage to nail the conversion for the lead.

A quick successive return try put the visitors back in front, but only momentarily, as a similar passage of play to our earlier score resulted in the younger Jordan scoring a near identical try to his senior counter-part. Managing to ground the ball closer to the uprights, we converted and took a narrow 2 point lead as the final whistle sounded and confirmed the victory.

An all-round excellent game, with a superb turn-out from some returning players. Great to see Chandler Bonne and Ryan Pitt back on the pitch. A warm welcome to Ryan Mp, playing his first game in Ipswich colours and well done to Sam Craske for returning and playing half a match for both teams.

A huge thank you to all the boys that played for Felixstowe. It's not always easy to wear enemy colours, but we wouldn't have had a game without you. Cheers lads.

With such an outstanding performance and team spirit from everyone, we will fore-go 'Dick of the Day'. There were a few close contenders (Jacobs, for squaring up to his skipper, for example). We did however have a double nomination for Man of the Match, if only to get both of the try-scorers in a father-son boat race. Never-the-less, it was a deserved title. Well done PJ and Chopper.

An all-round awesome effort, from an awesome Mighty squad.
