2023 Rugby starts here!

Henry Gaskin7 Jan 2023 - 10:38

Busy weekend of action at the club

A home double header on Saturday launches the year of rugby action at Humber Doucy Lane, with our top 2 senior teams both kicking off at 2pm.

The 1st XV have a stiff test against high-flying HAC in their fight for survival at Level 6. HAC have lost only once this season and with a couple of games in hand will have ambitions of their own on promotion. Jim Clark's boys have not taken the field in over a month due to the cold end to 2022, so will be well rested and hopefully not too rusty for this important encounter. New signing Harry Butler comes straight into the team in the front row in a strong line-up. Your support to be the 16th man from the sidelines will be needed!

The Magpies also kick off at home at 2pm, hoping to also reverse a defeat from earlier in the season against Fakenham. Again the squad is strengthened compared to the reverse encounter with fewer injuries and more availability giving coaches Hall & Pickering a good talent pool to cook up some magic with.

On Sunday our fabulous Athenas U16s head to Hitchin in the next round of the National Cup hoping to make progress into the later stages. Go well girls - we are sure Michaela will have you fired up and ready to go!

Suffolk Cup action is on the menu at HDL on Sunday with the talented boys U16 squad taking on local rivals Colchester at midday. Our U15s also play at the same time against Sudbury in the plate competition, so why not come down and check out the club's future talent?

Other games include the U13s & U14s at Bury and away fixtures for our other Athena's girls age groups. The minis are at home to hone their skills ahead of the challenges that lie ahead for the rest of the season.

Go well all in Black and Gold!
