Men’s 3rd XV – 2026/27 Season
Ipswich RFC’s Mighty 3rd XV continues to grow in depth, spirit, and identity, competing in Eastern Counties Greene King Division 2 South (Level 10). In recent seasons, the squad has celebrated promotion and lifted the Suffolk Bronze Cup, marking an important milestone in the club’s ongoing development.
Squad Identity & Leadership
Originally formed to give new players valuable game time, welcome experienced heads who weren’t ready to hang up their boots, and support Colts transitioning into senior rugby, the 3rd XV has evolved into a confident and competitive squad in its own right.
The team is led by the ever‑committed Dave “Chappers” Chapman, whose leadership, enthusiasm, and dedication continue to shape the squad’s inclusive, social, and hard‑working culture. With regular training and a clear pathway into higher senior rugby, the 3rd XV remains a vital part of the club’s senior structure.
We are also supported by Ian Simpson, our Head of Performance, whose expertise strengthens player development across all senior teams, including the Mighty 3s.
Training & Progression
For the 2026/27 season, the 3rd XV trains alongside the entire senior men’s section:
Tuesdays & Thursdays – 7:00pm
This shared environment promotes development, camaraderie, and progression, ensuring every player—whether social, developmental, or performance‑focused—has the opportunity to grow and enjoy their rugby.
Whether you’re returning to the sport, trying rugby for the first time, or simply looking for a good run‑around followed by a pint, the Mighty 3s will welcome you with open arms.
Match Days & Community
Matches take place on Saturday afternoons, and supporters are always encouraged to come along.
Free entry
Free parking
Clubhouse open for drinks and refreshments
The 3rd XV embodies everything that makes grassroots rugby special: competitive spirit, community pride, and plenty of laughs along the way.
