Ipswich 22 - 17 Wanstead

1st XV match report Saturday March 2nd

Ipswich 22 - 17 Wanstead

A Chris Kalapo-Ajala hatrick inspired Ipswich to an important home win in front of a large crowd at Humber Doucy Lane.

4th place Wanstead have a solid team but Ipswich showed most of the enterprise and with Tim Mann restored to inside centre there was always the chance of tries for Ipswich.

The late withdrawal of veteran Alex Primmer required a pack reshuffle and Primmer's height and authority in the lineout was missed throughout as Wanstead enjoyed more options here.

A half time change saw Elliott Siddle on for the luckless Ben Grimwood who pulled up lame. With Mann now dictating play from No.10 and Siddle playing centre Ipswich were the dominant team although they needed some super finishing from Kalapo-Ajala to make the game safe. 2 late scores rewarded Wanstead with a losing bonus point but by then Ipswich knew they had done enough to earn 5 valuable league points to climb from 10th to 8th in the league.
