Coach's Reports
U14s Coach's Report December 2011
Stu Hudson and his coaches continue to help this age group mature as they seek “A” and “B” matches vs. some of the strongest clubs in Eastern Counties and beyond; the focus this season is upon improvement, performance and execution. Having demolished their local rivals in a flawless non try conceding display at RHS to be crowned 7s Champions, our U14s have spent the past 3 months preparing for their Suffolk Cup matches in the New Year. As reigning U13s Champions they are this season’s bookies favourite for the U14s title; it will be a very interesting exercise to see these Boys rise to the challenge and produce their best rugby at the right time. There will be concerns of player release as they have more than their fair share of School and Representative players. However, if this can be negotiated and key forwards and backs remain injury free, Messrs Hudson & Co. should be playing their rugby with a smile and a flourish.
Ipswich U14s “In Touch Report” November 2011
The U14’s have had another successful start to the season with the only competitive defeat being a hard fought away match against Westcliff in record temperatures on a bone dry pitch. Commanding victories over Woodbridge, Stowmarket and Sudbury followed with Ipswich racking up an incredible total of 158 points to 24 against.
Ipswich fielded 3 teams in the Suffolk Sevens competition played at the Royal Hospital School grounds. Whilst the C team faced some very tough A teams in the group stages the B team won through to the Shield semi-final. A peerless display by the A team saw them win all of their pool games and against Woodbridge in the Trophy semi-final. A magnificent performance in the final against Colchester A resulted in Ipswich retaining the Trophy with some truly stunning rugby 36 points to 0.
The depth of the squad has notably improved this year to the extent that team has been able to change most of the on field players during matches and still maintain a competitive cohesive unit. This of course gives the coaches the kind of headache they like and shows that the hard work, during the well attended midweek training sessions, has really paid off.
The team and coaches look forward to challenging and successful remainder of the season with a hat trick victory at the South Coast Festival in their sights.
