Coach's Reports

U10s Coach's Report December 2011

Under Head Coach Bob Evans, our U10s squad is forging a formidable reputation for hard and fast “no nonsense” rugby that is beginning to carry all before them; the skill of the Boys is evidenced by winning the BSE Festival Cup in October and becoming the team to beat locally.....much is expected of them in the end of season Festivals and all of their Coaches and Parents are looking forward to a run of Club matches in the new year. I had the pleasure of refereeing this group of Boys the other week and despite their fierce and focused demeanour, they showed themselves to be a very happy and sporting group.

Bury Festival Report

The boys had a great day at Bury today culminating in a 2-0 win over Bury in the Final.  It was a true team performance with everyone working for each other.

Ipswich got off to a fantastic start beating Shelford 5 - 0 with tries from Sam P, Alex H (2), Archie and Tito.  It was 1 - 0 at half time and the boys got into their stride in the second half.  The front row worked hard to get the ball out and there was some superb passing from the backs.

The next game against Woodbridge was a convincing 8 - 0 with 2 tries from Max, 2 from Archie and one each for Tito, Sam P and Alex H (we're not sure where the 8th one came from but that's what the scoreboard said!)

In the last group match we played our old friends from Sudbury and after a tougher challenge came out 2 - 1 winners with tries from Henry and Max.  This was the most physical of our matches with Sudbury's strong defence proving tough to break down.  Sudbury will be a side to watch this season!

As group winners we went on to play Newmarket in the Semi-Final.  Ipswich again showed dominance with strong rucking and scrummaging from the forwards and some great passing from the backs.  Tries were scored by Alex H, Henry, Max, Tito (2) and Sam P and we ended up winning 6 - 1.

So into the final and a rematch of the Ipswich Festival.  This was a less tense affair but was still highly competitive.  Ipswich looked the more confident on the ball and didn't allow Bury to threaten their try line.  Alex H and Archie scored the tries.  2 - 0 to Ipswich and a cracking victory.

Woodbridge Development Festival October 9th 2011

The boys had a great experience at Woodbridge on Sunday and worked very hard.  The first three matches all resulted in narrow defeats (2-1, 2-0 2-1) but we finished on a high winning 7-1 against Sudbury with tries from Dan (3), William, Elliott (2) and Tyen. This last match was a great team performance with some good tackling and lots of effort from everyone and it showed just how much potential there is in the squad. Joel and Josh enjoyed themselves so much that they went and played for Lowestoft in the final!!

Well done to the whole squad and a big thank you to coaches and parents who helped out on the day. The creativity around allocation of shirts was especially impressive!
