After the previous weekend Ipswich had twelve first team players ruled out through injury on medical advice.
Ipswich Coach Aaron Brown had no choice but to select the Ipswich Magpies to fulfil this fixture.
It was always going to be an uphill struggle but was hopeful they would step up to the challenge. From the kick-off Diss kicked long and secured a 5 metre lineout which was charged over the line for an unconverted try. Diss’ far superior scrum secured a stable platform for their backline to run riot breaking through tackles and offloading to support runners. By halftime Diss had scored 7 try’s of which 3 were converted with no reply from Ipswich.
Halftime Diss 41 Ipswich 0
Despite words of encouragement from the Ipswich coach, it was really down to damage limitation. Within 2 minutes of the restart with Ipswich on the attack when a missed pass was picked up by the Diss winger who charged unopposed to the tryline for a converted try (48 – 0). Within 6 minutes Diss went further ahead again when missed and weak tackles allowed the charging centre to cross the line under the posts for another converted try (55 – 0).
Ipswich despite the scoreline continued try and raise an attack, on this occasion the pass found Young Colt Jermaine Watson who showed his pace by running around the outside of his opposite number to score on the right wing. Pickering missed the conversion. By now the Ipswich team failed to hold off the sustained Diss attack and understandably heads dropped.
The Diss backs and forwards combined the run in a futher 8 try’s of which 4 were converted.
The Final Score Diss 103 Ipswich 5
The Magpies should be commended for a valiant effort; some making their debut appearances at First Team level, with so many changes the only thing to come out of this was the experience of playing at a higher level of rugby.
It is hoped that some of the First team regulars will be declared medically fit to face Braintree at home next Saturday, Kick off at 3PM. With Chelmsford and Braintree winning (Colchester too) means that Ipswich. to avoid relegation really need to win all the remaining games'.
