Early pressure saw Ipswich awarded a lineout seven metres from the try line. After three quick phases of play Ipswich prop jason Clench with ball in hand crashed over in the right hand corner for the first try of the game and only three minutes of play. Mark Broughton missed the conversion.

On 12 minutes, with Ipswich enjoying all the play. broughton popped the ball up from a scrum for Tim Hopkins to run on to through the gap and score left of the uprights, this again went unconverted.

Broughto poped the ball up from a scrum in a similar position to the early try, but the Saffron Walden defence were prepared for it and intercepted the pass allowing the number 10 to race virtually the whole lengh of the field to score a gifted try left of the uprights, this went unconverted.

Just before half time Ipswich allowed Saffron Walden back into the game by allowing them to kick long into the Ipswich half forcing a five-metre lineout. Saffron Walden caught and drove a maul to the Ipswich try line and despite the Saffron walden player being off his feet was allowed to continue towards the line for another gifted try which wnet unconverted.

After 15 minutes of play in the second half Ipswich, failing to pick up the attack, saw Saffron walden put together a string of driving mauls before crossing the try line in the far corner for a converted try.

The referee awarded a penalty to Ipswich after saffon Walden's number two went into the side of a ruck killing the ball, from the resultant scrum Ipswich drove the ball towards the line, a ruck formed and Ipswich prop Morgan basham picked up and drove himself over the line next to the posts, Tertius Terblanche kicked the easy conversion to win the game for Ipswich,.

This coming Sunday Ipswich take on Bury St Edmunds in the Final of the Suffolk Cup, this is a re-match of the final played last year. Kick off is at 2.15pm
