A MESSAGE FROM NICK GREENHALL
To all at Ipswich RFC.
I have been asked to introduce myself as your new Director of Rugby & Head Coach at Ipswich RFC.
I am a full time professional rugby coach, RFU Level 4.
My playing days began in the English south-west school’s division and continued in Cardiff at UWIC with Welsh students. I also enjoyed spells with local clubs Maesteg, Penarth & Tenby United.
Whilst playing rugby league for 5 summer seasons I befriended dual rugby code international Ray French who nominated me Player of the Southern Conference in 1998 and I captained the Southern Conference X111 in that season. Great games, great fun. Conference final twice. Whilst qualifying as a PE teacher I developed my coaching alongside the likes of Clive Griffiths, Jim McKay and John Curry.
Many of you may know me from my time at North Walsham Rugby Club who I represented as a player, captain and coach for over 25 years.
I have also helped Eastern Counties RFU as a player, captain and coach for over 10 years with one Twickenham finals visit in that time. Many juniors from clubs within The Eastern Counties have been coached and mentored by me which has helped them become full time rugby professionals.
In 2012 I was appointed Defence coach for England Colleges and progressed to head coach in 2014. We enjoyed some notable victories over Ireland, Wales and Worcester Academy.
I have also guided league promotions with North Walsham, Wymondham & Southwold RFC’s.
I currently enjoy roles at Easton College Rugby Academy, The University of East Anglia, county development & RFU coach development.
When I’m not at work I’ll be with my 2 boys, Cameron 18 and Hayden, 12 probably on a beach in Norfolk or the Algarve!
I am really excited by the challenges that face us here at Ipswich RFC. I aim to develop a strong learning environment for all players with help from many of the existing coaches and support staff throughout the club as well as assistance from external coaches.
Our ambition will be to win matches playing exciting rugby whilst developing the best characteristics inherent in fine rugby players.
My coaching duties at Ipswich will see me direct the overall coaching set up from top to bottom. This will include coach development work to help improve the standard of coaching throughout the club.
I hope to meet as many of the coaches and support staff as soon as possible ahead of senior pre-season training in July.
We will work hard but enjoy the ride together as I aim to make it fun.
I look forward to meeting you all in the very near future.
